Mo Ghille Mear / My Gallant Hero

Duration | 3.10

“Mo Ghile Mear” is a traditional Irish song written by the 18th-century poet Seán Clárach Mac Domhnaill. The song is a caoineadh (lament) composed in the aftermath of the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. It reflects the deep sorrow of Irish poets and patriots who had placed their hopes on Prince Charles Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) to reclaim the throne from the English. His exile symbolised a crushing blow to both the Irish and Scottish Gaelic traditions, which were in decline due to English colonisation.

This setting is for low voices and the order comes with a Pronunciation guide and in US Letter and A4 formats.
