This beautiful, sad lullaby is written for mixed voice choir with either a semi-chorus singing the upper line or a very competent soloist. The overall sense of the work is calm, with the end section fading to virtually nothing.

Dormi Jesu Mater ridet,
quae tam dulcem somnum videt,
Dormi Jesu blandule.
Si non dormis, mater plorat.
Inter fila cantans orat:
Blande veni somnule.
Sleep, Jesus, your mother smiles
when she sees such gentle sleep.
Sleep Jesus, gently.
If you do not sleep, your mother cries.
And, singing, prays as she weaves:
"Come, gentle sleep."
